The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali $3.99 The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali is a foundational text of Yoga. It forms part of the corpus of Sutra literature dating to India's Mauryan period. In Indian philosophy, Yoga (also Raja Yoga to distinguish it from later schools) is the name of one of the six orthodox philosophical schools. Though brief, the Yoga Sutras are an enormously influential work on yoga philosophy and practice, held by principal proponents of yoga such as Iyengar (1993: p.xiii) as being of principal importance:Patanjali fills each sutra with his experiential intelligence, stretching it like a thread (sutra), and weaving it into a garland of pearls of wisdom to flavour and savour by those who love and live in yoga….– Excerpted from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. |

Yoga Sutras of Patanjali $6.29 This is an English rendering of the classical text on yoga and meditations that maintains the poetic forms of the sutras. Patanjali is to Yoga what Buddha is to Buddhism. His sutras-scriptural narratives sometimes defined as literally "the path to transcendence"- are a darshan or philosophical worldview and method to aid the awakening of self-realization. Patanjali reveals a set of landmarks that enable practitioners to lift the veils and study the hidden self eventually following this path to enlightenment. |

Krishnamacharya in 1938 with Yoga Sutras, Part 2 of 6
The History Text of Yoga, Sutras Pantanjali
With all the advancement we achieve, life is so fast and everyone is always busy. With such busy schedule, most of us neglected our health. With the recent popularity of yoga, it puts our mind back to the connection to our bodies. An ancient text about yoga has been pass down for a very long time; the Yoga Sutras Patanjali.
Yoga sutras Patanjali which consist of 195 phrases is written by Patanjali. It designed to be easy to memorize. This text is original written at around 2nd century. Yoga sutras Patanjali has been a very important reference in the evolution of yoga practice. Most of the modern yoga we practice today is originated from this text.
Yoga sutras Patanjali consist of 4 books; Samadhi Pada, Sadhana Pada, Vibhuti Pada and Kaivalya Pada. Samadhi Pada is about the basic of yoga. It is about the disciplines of yoga. As we know, yoga is all about mind and body. When we are practicing yoga, we need to concentrate and be mindful about our bodies. This is how we can relate back to our bodies. Therefore this can be the most important and basic philosophy of the Yoga sutras Patanjali. Without these, yoga will be just another form of exercise.
In the book of Sadhana Pada, Kriya yoga is first introduced and also the eight limbs of yoga first appear. The word Sadhana is practice in Sanskrit. Basically, this book is also about practice. The ultimate purpose of Kriya yoga is to achieve enlightenments or awareness of our being in the universe. This form of yoga is often related to Buddhist and Hindu studies because it is practice by monk in order to achieve peacefulness and enlightenments.
The third book Vibhuti pada is the book about power. There are so many abilities described in the text that seem impossible to us now. But if we take a closer look at Vibhuti Pada, it emphasizes the awareness of our bodies and awakening of our senses. With the awareness, we can synchronize with the energy around us and achieve unity with the universe.
Kaivalya Pada, the book for isolation and freedom, is the last book in Yoga Sutras. Isolation means the isolation of mind from manifestations of material, a pure consciousness of mind. In this books also explain the structure of minds and how it works. If you heard or read about the laws of attraction, you know many of our condition manifests from our mind. In fact this theory is similar to Kaivalya Pada.
I have to emphasize here that yoga is not any exercise. Every poses and movement combine the knowledge of our physical being and our minds. It exercises you body and your mind. Maybe not everyone would like to achieve enlightenment now, but it is indeed a good exercise for you to reconnect with your own body.
